Introducing LunaGuard® Nighttime Dental Guard, designed to protect teeth and minimize damage from bruxism or nighttime grinding.
What is bruxism?
Bruxism, also known as teeth grinding and/or jaw clenching during sleep, affects up to 31% of the U.S. population. Its consequences can be substantial, leading to headaches, tooth damage, jaw pain, worn enamel, or chronic facial pain. Nevertheless, through appropriate treatment and care, the adverse effects of bruxism can be mitigated.
PROTECTS Against Grinding and Clenching
LunaGuard® offers exceptional protection through its unique design and materials. Crafted from robust thermoplastic, it effectively prevents the wearer from biting through the guard.
PERFORATED for Maximum Protection with Absorb-X™ Technology.
Employing Absorb-X™ Technology, LunaGuard® features perforations that diffuse and absorb grinding forces, safeguarding teeth from the pressure associated with bruxism.
ULTRA THIN For Superior Comfort.
At just 1.6 mm thick, LunaGuard® ensures superior comfort during sleep. Its slim, lightweight profile allows for unrestricted speaking, drinking, and breathing without compromising comfort.
REMOLDABLE For a Perfect Fit.
Designed for a quick and easy custom fit, LunaGuard® is made from a special thermoplastic that can be remolded up to 20 times, ensuring an optimal fit for optimal performance.
Benefits
Protects against the damaging effects of bruxism, which involves the grinding and clenching of teeth. LunaGuard features perforations for maximum protection, dispersing and absorbing grinding forces to redirect pressure away from your teeth. This innovative design, paired with durable thermoplastic material, ensures optimal defense against bruxism. The perforations also promote a natural saliva flow.
Exceptionally strong, LunaGuard is crafted from a material so robust that we guarantee it won’t be chewed through. Despite its strength, it maintains a slim profile at just 1.6 mm, allowing for unrestricted talking, drinking, and breathing while wearing. This thinness contributes to a more comfortable fit.
Fitting LunaGuard is easy thanks to its unique remoldable thermoplastic material. If the initial fit isn’t perfect, simply re-fit the guard by reshaping it in hot water, returning it to its original form.
How to Use?
NECESSARY ITEMS Glass or ceramic bowl, hot water (160°F), fork, mirror
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Heat enough water to submerge the dental guard in, ensuring it reaches 160°F (71°C) – hot but not boiling. This can be done on a stovetop or in a microwave.
- Immerse the dental guard in the hot water until the material becomes clear, indicating it is soft and pliable for fitting. Use a fork to lift the guard out of the water.
- Hold the softened material as depicted in the image, being careful not to let it fold onto itself.
- Using a mirror for guidance, position the material so that the solid area in the middle of the guard (without holes) aligns with the chewing surface of your upper teeth. Ensure enough material extends outward, reaching but not surpassing the gum line once fitted. Bite down gently and press your tongue against the material to hold it in place. Note: Avoid stretching the material while it’s soft.
- With your fingertips, gently mold the dental guard against the outside surface of your teeth toward the gum line while using your tongue to secure the back of the guard.
- Close your lips over the guard and create gentle suction to ensure a snug fit. Wait for 5 minutes to allow the material to fully harden before removing the dental guard. Caution: Avoid excessive suction, which can lead to an overly tight fit.
- To remove the guard, grasp the top front edge with fingertips from both hands and pull down gently to release.
Luna Dental Guard
You’ll know the dental guard is properly fitted if it covers the outer side of your teeth and requires a gentle pull to remove. If the initial fit is unsatisfactory (uneven, too loose, etc.), repeat the fitting process by reheating the guard in hot water. After use, if the guard feels too tight, briefly submerge it in 160°F water for 2 to 3 seconds and repeat Step 6.
Regularly check your LunaGuard® for wear during cleaning to assess if replacement is needed after 6 months of use.
TIPS
- Avoid excessive suction; gentle suction is sufficient for molding the LunaGuard®.
- Do not bite down too hard or create deep bite marks in the guard.
- Use water at 160°F; boiling water should be avoided.
- Prevent stretching the material while it’s soft to maintain its strength and prevent excessive shrinking during molding.
- Ensure your teeth align with the center of the dental guard.
Warnings and Cautions
- If you wear braces, have the bite guard fitted by your orthodontist or dentist; do not try to fit it on your own.
- Using an improperly fitted bite guard may pose health risks or reduce its protective properties.
- Ensure the dental guard fits snugly and securely to prevent inhalation or swallowing accidents.
- Do not use the guard if you have artificial dentures, loose teeth, fillings, caps, unfilled cavities, mouth sores, or bleeding gums.
- Avoid exposing the dental guard to temperatures over 160°F (71°C) or open flames, and keep it away from hot environments.
- Exercise caution with nail polish or artificial nails, as the guard material may stick to these surfaces during fitting.
- Do not let the guard come into contact with teeth bleaching agents, mouthwash containing alcohol, or tooth whitening products.
- Consult your dentist if you experience pain or discomfort before continuing use.
- Do not use LunaGuard® as an athletic mouth guard.
